How to install IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules 7.1.1 on Windows 7

The document describes how to install IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules 7.1.1 with the 7.1.1.2 fixpack on Windows 7.

Installing Rule Studio and Rule Execution Server 7.1.1
Download IBM WebSphere ILOG BRMS JRules V7.1.1 for Windows Multilingual (CZLX7ML) and execute JRules_V711_CZLX7ML.exe file. It will run the installer.
Press OK.
The Introduction panel shows up.
Press Next.
Select modules you want to install.
Press Next.
In the Choose Install Folder panel you can select the destination folder you would like the product to install to.
Select any directory you want with no spaces in its path.
Press Next.
Press Next.
Press Next.
Press Install and the installation process begins.
Wait a few minutes and the installation finishes with the Install Complete panel.
Press Done.
A browser shows up with the IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules BRMS V7.1.1 - README document.
Read it for more information on the product, esp. the Starting Rule Studio section.
Run the Rule Studio via Start > Rule Studio.
The shortcut should be created during installation.
The Eclipse Ganymede with IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules plugins and features starts up.
The default Eclipse workspace is fine in most cases so press OK. You can select the Use this as the default and do not ask again checkbox to not be asked for it again.
The Rule Studio shows up.
You can verify that your installation is at 7.1.1 level via Help > About Eclipse SDK and pressing the Feature Details button.
Unfortunatelly, you can't update your Rule Studio using Help > Software Updates... although there's the 7.1.1.1 update available.
It finishes the installation.
Upgrading to 7.1.1.1 - the fixpack installation
Go to IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules Fix Pack V7.1.1.1 and click the FC link for JRules for Windows.
A page with the different fixpack packages opens. Click jrules_core.exe to start downloading the 7.1.1.1 fixpack for Rule Studio.
It takes a while before the file gets downloaded - time for a longer break.
Once it's on your hard drive, run jrules_core.exe.
The splash screen of the fixpack installer shows up - don't get confused with the version 7.1.1 on it.
Press OK.
The Introduction panel makes it clear you're about to install the IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules 7.1.1.1 fixpack.
Press Next.
Select a valid 7.1.0 or 7.1.1 JRules installation directory.
Press Next.
Select the JVM for the installation.
Press Next.
Review the summary.
Press Install and the installation begins.
It takes a few minutes to complete and the Install Complete panel opens up.
Press Done.
The IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules BRMS V7.1.1.1 - README document opens in a browser. Have your time with the reading or save it for later.
Run the Rule Studio using Start > Rule Studio shortcut.
Once Rule Studio's up, open the About Eclipse SDK popup window using Help > About Eclipse SDK.
Press the purple globe icon on the left to open the panel with information on the installed IBM WebSphere ILOG Rule Studio 7.1.1.1 feature.
Congratulations! The IBM WebSphere ILOG Rule Studio 7.1.1.1 is ready for your business rules development!
Upgrading to 7.1.1.2 - the fixpack installation
Go to IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules Fix Pack V7.1.1.2 and click the FC link for JRules for Windows.
A page with the different fixpack packages opens. Click jrules_core.exe to start downloading the 7.1.1.1 fixpack for Rule Studio.
It takes a while before the file gets downloaded - time for a break or read up Installation Instructions in IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules Fix Pack V7.1.1.2.
According to the IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules Fix Pack V7.1.1.2 document it's necessary to uninstall a couple of web applications. These were not available in my sample server though.
You will have to uninstall J2EE connectors - this time it was available, but just one not two?!
Press Uninstall.
You'll be asked to confirm your wish to uninstall the connector. Press OK.
Stop the server.
Your mileage may very so you should check the web applications and the J2EE connectors before moving on with the installation.
In the meantime, jrules_core.exe should already get downloaded and ready for a ride. Run it.
